The Wedding Planner

The Wedding Planner is a tale about how sometimes when you think the grass is greener on the other side, it actually is.

Steve Edison (Matthew McConaughey) is a doctor who saves the life of Mary Fiore (Jennifer Lopez), a wedding planner. They go out on a date, there's chemistry, and it's all bed of roses until Mary is introduced to his fiancee Donolly Fran (Bridgette Wilson-Sampras) and asked to plan their wedding. Sparks fly and the rest of the film is about how this love triangle will be resolved.

The acting is very good, but the chemistry between Lopez and McConaughey is lacking. The film is very vacuous in its portrayal of its characters. The primary message I got out of this film is that marriage is an inane institution, but this is something I was aware of before. The key point to consider in such situations as outlined by the film is this: if Steve was willing to dump Fran for Mary (at the altar, no less), then why wouldn't he do the same again to Mary sometime in the future, or expect that Mary wouldn't dump him? This says something about relationships in general, in my view.

The Wedding Planner is worth watching if you have few other options left (either on the big screen or as a rental).
